When to compare resolvers

Google and Cloudflare each keep their own cache. If they return different answers for the same record, a recent change has not reached one of them yet (wait for the old TTL to expire), or your nameservers are serving different data from different servers. Both are common right after editing SPF or DMARC.

Useful lookups

  • DMARC: TXT at _dmarc.example.com. Or use the DMARC checker for a full analysis.
  • SPF: TXT at example.com. The SPF checker also counts lookups.
  • DKIM: TXT at selector._domainkey.example.com, for example selector1 and selector2 for Microsoft 365 or google for Google Workspace.
  • MTA-STS: TXT at _mta-sts.example.com, and TLS reporting at _smtp._tls.example.com.
  • Who may issue certificates: CAA at example.com.
